Snapshot Comparison

Any two snapshots compared side by side across all governed domains with per-domain filtering — active baseline designation visible on every row so comparison context is always clear.

The ability to compare any two plan states is what makes snapshot governance valuable beyond simple archival. Storing snapshots creates a historical record; comparing them is how teams extract analytical value from that record. ProjectXL's comparison surface is designed to make those comparisons fast, focused, and immediately useful across a wide range of review scenarios.

Flexible Anchor Selection

The comparison surface supports any two snapshots from the archive as comparison anchors. The most common use is current state versus the active baseline — the standard baseline deviation review. But teams can also compare two historical snapshots to understand how the plan evolved between specific points in time, or compare the active baseline against a proposed rebaseline candidate to evaluate the scope of the rebaseline. Any combination of snapshots in the archive can be the input to a comparison.

Row-Level Change Detail

Within each governed domain, changes appear at the row level. Added rows appear in one color, deleted rows in another, and modified rows show the before and after values for each changed field. For a schedule activity comparison, this means planners can see exactly which activities were added, removed, or had their dates, durations, or relationships changed between the two plan states — not just a summary count of changed activities. This level of detail is what makes comparisons useful for baseline deviation analysis and for answering specific questions about how and when the plan changed.
