Workspace Coaching

Every workspace carries a coaching contract — purpose statement, task-completion status, and per-element guidance on hover — with Coach mode for orientation and Expert mode for a compact action-forward display.

Workspace coaching is the mechanism by which ProjectXL teaches the project-control operating model without a separate training program. Every workspace in the product is designed with a coaching contract — a defined set of guidance elements that explain what the workspace is for, what the user should accomplish here, and how to interpret what they are seeing.

The Coaching Contract

Each workspace carries three types of authored guidance. The purpose statement explains what the workspace is for and why the user is here at this point in the lifecycle — not a generic description of the feature, but a statement grounded in the current stage and task context. The status rollup shows task completion counts and attention items across the current stage, so the user has a quick sense of progress. Per-element guidance provides term definitions, field explanations, and context-sensitive help text accessible on hover throughout the workspace.

Coach and Expert Mode

Coach mode delivers the full coaching contract on entry: purpose statement, status rollup, and contextual hints throughout the workspace. Expert mode compresses that information to a compact, status-focused display that surfaces the same data state assessment without the orientation copy. Users switch between modes based on their familiarity with the operating model — and the underlying workflow, governance rules, and data quality evaluation are identical in both modes. The difference is entirely in how much scaffolding is visible, not in what the system is doing.
